Traveloinfo: Church of Saint Louis en Ile

The Church of Saint Louis en l'Ile was established during the early 1600's as the parish church of the newly created residential area of of the Ile Saint Louis.

Built in the classical style of the period it reflects many elements of Jesuit architectural style.

The interior of the church is richly decorated with many artworks dating from the 14th to the 20th century.

There are paintings by Francesco Vicellio, Carl Van Loo, Charles Coypel, Charles Stella. There is a gem of a polychrome wood, the Dormition of the Virgin from the 15th century and various ceramics from the 17th and 18th century.

The stained glass in the church reflects episodes in the life of Louis IXth, Saint Louis.

The Church is usually opend from Tuesday to Saturday from 9am to Noon, then 3pm to 7pm. On Sunday the church is open from 3pm to 6pm.
